The office of the head of the so-called Sovereignty Council in Sudan has denied reports by French news agency about the participation of the Sudanese military in the upcoming elections.
According to an earlier French report, Lieutenant-General Abdel-Fattah Abdel-Rahman al-Burhan had said that “The upcoming elections will be open to all forces that participated in the transitional phase, including the military.”
The President of the Sovereignty Council however, has stressed that the French news agency has misrepresented the words of al-Burhan.
He pointed out that al-Burhan “clearly affirmed, without any doubt, that the participation of the military in the upcoming elections is not possible, according to the text of the constitutional document.”
