The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militias in Hadhramaut province, eastern Yemen, announced on Monday that they had taken control of one of the province’s districts.
Media sources indicated that the so-called Barashid Brigade faction, led by Abduldaym al-Shua’ibi, organised a popular festival in Yabu`th district in Hadhramaut to welcome the deployment of the brigade’s forces, in direct opposition to the Saudi-led forces of the Hadi government.
The Barashid Brigade announced the deployment of its forces west of Mukalla city. This deployment, which receives directions from the Presidency of the STC in Aden, comes as part of the continued siege imposed by tribes of Hadhramaut against Saudi-led positions in the oil-rich regions of Hadhramaut.
