UAE-backed mercenaries open fire on Yemenis celebrating West Asia Cup victory

The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia has on Monday night forcibly dispersed celebrations in the southern Yemeni city of Aden on the occasion of Yemen’s victory in the West Asian Junior Football Championship.

According to sources, Security Belt mercenaries opened fire in Mansoura directorate at fans who took to the street to celebrate the football achievement after chanting “with soul and with blood, we will redeem you Yemen.”

The sources added that another force belonging to the STC dispersed young people with live ammunition as they were celebrating  in the streets of Crater district in conjunction with the shooting of revelers by security forces in al-Maala and Al-Tawahi districts amid an intense security deployment.

Observers attributed the STC’s reaction to the celebrations in Aden, which spread to Yemen, to the fact that it was a clear showcase of Yemeni national unity, in clear contradiction to the UAE-led attempts to foment South Yemeni separatism.
