The Al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces-PMF) in Iraq has launched a large-scale military operation in Hemrin area against Daesh (ISIS) remnants, Iraqi media reported, citing a PMF statement issued on Sunday morning.
According to the statement, the operation, orchestrated by the PMF in coordination with Diyala’s army Operations Command, covers the territory between Kirkuk-Baghdad and Ayn Layla-Qara Tappa roads via five axes.
The operation was carried out by the PMF 1st, 4th, 20th, 23rd, 24th, and Nidaa Diyala Brigades , in addition to the 52nd Brigade and the Commandos regiment of the PMF Northern Axis.
The operation was backed by the PMF Support Forces and covered from the air by the Iraqi Air Force.
The statement said that the operation is aimed at pursuing ISIS remnants and eradicating its presence in this territory, in roder to deter the attacks the terrorist organisation regularly launches against civilians and security forces in the region.
