The United Nations has announced the appointment of retired Irish Major General Michael Beary as head of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA) in Yemen.
Beary, who was also appointed Chair of the Redeployment Coordination Committee (RCC), succeeds retired Indian General Abhijit Guha in the post.
The United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement was formed to monitor the ceasefire in Hodeidah, according to the Stockholm Agreement signed at the end of 2018 between the National Salvation Government of Yemen and the Saudi-backed exiled Hadi government, under the auspices of the United Nations.
