The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has on Monday revealed the country’s intention to appoint a new ambassador to Yemen.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Saeed Khatibzadeh said, in a press conference, “There are arrangements to appoint a new ambassador to Sana’a to succeed the late ambassador Hassan Irlu, who died from an infection with the Covid-19 virus.”
Khatibzadeh indicated that the appointment of the new ambassador aims to find a sustainable solution in Yemen, calling for focusing on a political solution.
He expressed his country’s desire to hold a fifth round of negotiations with Saudi Arabia in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, considering dialogue the best method for resolving differences between the two countries.
The spokesman revealed that Tehran has submitted proposals to Saudi Arabia and is awaiting a response from them.
Ambassador Hassan Irlu died last week of Covid-19, having lost precious time for medical treatment abroad due to delays in the diplomatic flight being able to safely leave Yemen because of a Saudi aerial blockade.
