High-ranking officer of Emirati-backed mercenaries killed by Yemeni forces

A commander of the Second Brigade of Al-Amaliqa Brigades, a mercenary group backed by the Saudi-led coalition, was killed on Tuesday in Usaylan district of Shabwah province, east of Yemen.

Local sources familiar with the matter said that the UAE-funded commander, Samih Jarada, was targeted during a military operation waged by the Yemeni army in the area of Haid bin Saban in the Usaylan desert.

The killing of Jarada comes as part of the brigade’s recent heavy losses on the battlefronts in the desert. On Monday, the Yemeni army was able to repel a wide-scale infiltration attempt carried out by UAE-backed Al-Amaliqa forces in the southwest of the same province.

The sources affirmed that violent battles broke out over the past 24 hours due to the offensive carried out by Al-Amaliqa militants towards the army’s sites in Haid Bin Aqil area of Usaylan district, adding that the army inflicted heavy losses in lives and equipment on the mercenaries

According to the sources, Ataq hospitals received 41 dead bodies of Al-Amaliqa militias and 57 injured in an initial toll.
