Russian troops have destroyed a concrete dam built in Ukraine’s Kherson Region in 2014 to cut off water supply to Crimea, thereby restoring water flow to a canal linking the Dnieper River in Ukraine to the Russian region of Crimea, Governor Sergey Aksyonov said.
Aksyonov, who is Governor of Crimeaz told news outlet Novosti that Russian Defence Ministry experts destroyed the dam, which was built under the directives of the Ukrainian coup authorities in 2014 as part of its reaction against Crimea’s return to Russia, which prevented the waters of the Dnieper River to flow to the peninsula through the North Crimean Canal.
In March 2014, Crimeans voted overwhelmingly for their region to become a part of Russia, in response to a Western-backed coup in Kiev.
