The Embassy of Ukraine in Abu Dhabi has said on Wednesday that the UAE has suspended the entry of Ukrainians without a visa.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the Ukrainian embassy said that the UAE had “suspended the work of the memorandum of understanding with the Ukrainian government regarding the mutual cancellation of the visa.”
“As of today, Ukrainian passport holders who wish to travel abroad must obtain an appropriate visa to visit the UAE,” the statement read.
It added, “The temporary suspension of the Memorandum of Understanding does not apply to Ukrainian citizens who are already in the UAE.” However, the new rule does apply to citizens of Ukraine who arrived in Abu Dhabi for tourism purposes and have been unable to return to Ukraine due to the Russian attack, according to the embassy.
The American CNBC news website said that the announcement shocked Ukrainians in the country, many of whom commented on the post with anger and bewilderment.
