The UAE Ambassador to the United States has stressed Thursday that it is very difficult to create an adequate defence system to prevent drone attacks.
The move came during his speech at the International Defense Industry, Technology and Security Conference held in Abu Dhabi.
“I think we are behind the curve on drones,” Yousef al-Otaiba said. “It is (…) very hard to create a proper defence system to prevent drone attacks.
We have yet to develop a very (…) robust drone defence system. That is going to be our main challenge in the future.”
Al-Otaiba acknowledged the failure of the UAE air defence systems, on which billions of dollars were spent over decades, in confronting the Yemeni drones.
Last January, the Yemeni Armed Forces carried out three military operations named Yemen Hurricane, against strategic facilities deep inside the UAE, using domestically-manufactured combat drones and ballistic missiles.
