Missile attack hits US military base in Iraq

A missile attack has targeted a military base housing US occupation forces in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan region, as well as the US consulate in that region, Iraqi media reported after midnight Saturday .

No confirmed casualties have been reported so far from the incident.

According to the Kurdistan region’s intelligence sources, as many as 12 ballistic missiles were used in the Erbil attack.

“Twelve ballistic missiles were launched from outside Iraq to target Erbil, the state news agency quoted the Directorate General of Counter-Terrorism in the Kurdistan region as saying.

Meanwhile, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi on Sunday commented on the missile attack rocket on Erbil in the Iraqi Kurdistan region saying “The aggression which targeted the dear city of Erbil and spread fear among its inhabitants is an attack on the security of our people.”

He added, “We have followed up with the president of the Kurdistan Regional Government. Our security forces will investigate this attack and will address any harm to the security of our cities and the safety of our citizens.”
