A violent explosion has targeted a demonstration held by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Shabwah province.
This was reported by Yemen News Portal, based on testimonies of local sources.
According to local sources, unknown gunmen threw bombs at the STC’ demonstration in the city of Ataq.
Security forces tried to block the demonstration against the announcement of the Political Bureau of Tariq Saleh (also known as Tariq Afash), the nephew of the late President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
The STC fears that the Political Bureau will represent an end to its future in the oil-rich province, as the STC aspired to acquire it to boost its gains in eastern Yemen.
