The US Department of State Department commented on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s visit to the UAE on Friday.
“We are profoundly disappointed and troubled by this apparent attempt to legitimise Bashar al-Assad, who remains responsible and accountable for the death and suffering of countless Syrians,” said US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price.
On Friday, Syrian President Bashar Assad arrived in the United Arab Emirates, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.
According to SANA, Assad met with Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai.
During the meeting, the two discussed expanding bilateral relations between their countries.
The recent developments show an apparent inability by the United States to keep their allies in the Arab world from following the hard line that Washington still wants to take towards countries such as Syria.
