Former UAE-backed mercenaries block roads in Shabwah province in protest

The so-called Shabwah Elite mercenary forces have cut off an international road on Monday and prevented trailers from entering the city of Ataq, the capital of Shabwah province in eastern Yemen.

Local sources reported that Shabwah Elite militia members, who were recently abandoned by the UAE, blocked the international road in front of the Bin Amer fuel station, and prevented oil and gas trucks from entering the city.

The sources confirmed that the gunmen blocked the road with the aim of putting pressure on the leadership of the Emirati forces in Shabwah to pay the monthly stipends that the UAE cut in early January.

Other elements of the Shabwah Elite cut off the road in Dhahirat Bahaqina area in Jardan district in the province, according to the sources.

This comes after thousands of mercenaries announced last February they would hold a sit-in protest in front of Balhaf gas facility, in protest against their abandonment, the cutting of Emirati rewards, and their replacement ny the Al-Amaliqa Brigades that were brought from the western coast front.
