The Iranian Foreign Ministry has on Tuesday welcomed the peace initiative launched by President of Yemen, Mahdi al-Mashat, to suspend all military actions towards Saudi Arabia by land, sea and air for three days.
According to IRNA, the Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh welcomed the Sana’a initiative, saying “This initiative launched by Sana’a in good faith contains a strong message about its decisive will to end the war, lift the unjust siege on the Yemeni people, and resolve the Yemeni crisis through political means.”
Khatibzadeh pointed out that the “case of serious and positive interaction with this initiative could provide a suitable ground for ending the current war, hoping to witness a national reconciliation and the cessation of clashes in Yemen with the approach of the holy month of Ramadan.”
On Saturday, President al-Mashat had announced an unilateral initiative that provides for the suspension of missile strikes, drone strikes and all other military actions towards Saudi Arabia by land, sea and air for three days, which entered into force at 6:00 PM on Sunday, with readiness to turn this declaration into a permanent commitment in the event that Saudi Arabia commits to ending the siege and stopping its raids on Yemen once and for all.
The initiative also included the cessation of confrontations on all fronts, including the Ma’rib front, for three days, and full readiness to release all prisoners of war if the other party reciprocates.
