A security official loyal to the Saudi-led coalition has been killed in Yemen’s southern port city of Aden, local sources reported on Tuesday.
According to the sources, Captain Karam al-Mashreqi was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Sheikh Othman district.
The gunmen set an ambush and fired a hail of bullets al-Mashreqi while he was going to his headquarters in the district.
According to a medical source, al-Mashreqi was shot six times in various parts of his body. He was taken to a Médecins Sans Frontières hospital and then to al-Wali Hospital, but eventually died of his wounds.
The assassination of Commander Karam al-Mashreqi comes several days after the assassination of a commander of the Al-Anad military axis, Brigadier General Thabet Muthanna Jawas.
So far, no official statement has been issued by the local authorities about the incident, the culprits or the motives for the assassination.
However, al-Mashreqi had previously rejected the directives of the head of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Aidarous al-Zubaidi, hand over Sheikh Othman district security, which is a possible indication of a split between separate mercenary factions.
