The President of the Supreme Political Council of Yemen, Mahdi al-Mashat, said on Tuesday that “the Americans and British are taking charge of the economic war on Yemen, in order to bring suffering to every home.”
President al-Mashat confirmed during an interview with the official Yemen TV channel that “the enemy practices a policy of putting their knee on the Yemenis and punishes them for rejecting its agenda and for its steadfastness in confronting it.”
He referred that the current fuel crisis is the culmination of an ongoing economic war that has been waged since the US ambassador to Kuwait announced that he would work to strike the value of Yemen’s local currency.
As for the high prices for basic goods, President al-Mashat said that the high prices “are linked to the blockade, and the Saudi-led coalition is responsible for this.”
He explained that the high prices of the stock exchange, maritime transport, fuel, and the embargo measures are the main reasons for to the rise in commodities prices.
President Mahdi al-Mashat clarified that “the National Salvation Government is engaged in an ongoing discussion with merchants, especially with the advent of the holy month of Ramadan to determine set prices.”
