Central Bank governor meets with UN Envoy in Sana'a

The Acting Chairman of the Economic Committee and Governor of the Central Bank of Sana’a, Hashem Ismail, has met on Tuesday with the UN Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg, in order to discuss the economic situation and the issue of the salaries of state employees.

In the meeting, the governor stressed the need to fully adhere to the terms of the truce announced by the United Nations, without any deduction or derogation, noting that the success of the truce would alleviate the suffering of all Yemeni people in both the north and south.

Ismail also affirmed the importance of expediting the implementation of opening Sana’a International Airport to alleviate the suffering of citizens that has been going on for seven years.

He touched on the financial division in monetary policy, which has been caused by the transfer of Central Bank functions to Aden by the Saudi-led forces in September 2016, and the importance of reunifying the monetary policy of the Bank.

The meeting reviewed the developments represented in the signing of the memorandum of understanding with the United Nations regarding the Safer oil reservoir and its commitment to mobilising the necessary funding for solutions stipulated in the memorandum.
