At least five people, including a child, were killed in northern and western Yemen on Tuesday, due to floods resulting from heavy rains in several parts of the country.

A local official in the capital Sana’a told Reuters that two maintenance workers at the Water and Sanitation Corporation drowned while trying to open the channel drains in the centre of the city of Sana’a.

In the northwestern province of Hajjah, local sources said that two others died as a result of torrential rains that washed away their car in the district of Qarah near Saudi borders, while two others survived.

On Tuesday, citizens found the body of a child who was swept away due to heavy rains in the northern province of Jawf near the border of Saudi Arabia.

In the province of Ma’rib, local sources said that more than 1,200 people have been displaced from the eastern parts of the province due to the rains and floods.
