Police officer wounded by assassination attempt in Hadhramaut

A police officer loyal to the Saudi-led coalition and his child were injured in an assassination attempt late on Monday evening, medical sources in Hadhramaut said.

The sources pointed out that the officer, who works in the security forces of Seiyun, came under fire while passing by his car near the airport.

His son was also injured in the incident, according to the sources.

The sources explained that the security forces in the area cordoned off the hospital and prevented the identification of the officer by press.

The incident coincided with a meeting chaired by Ahmed bin Brik, the President of the National Assembly of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), meant to discuss the breakdown of security in the areas under the control of Islah militants in the Wadi Hadhramaut area.

The incident could cause new escalation, as demands for expelling all military units belonging to the Islah Party have increased recently.
