European Union calls on Saudi-backed puppet government to tackle corruption

The European Union has called on the Saudi-led puppet government to end corruption, pay the suspended salaries of employees and provide basic services to its citizens.

The EU mission said on Twitter that the ambassadors of the EU countries, as well as the ambassadors of the Netherlands and Germany to Yemen, discussed in Amman with the Minister of Finance of the coalition-backed government and the governor of the Central Bank in Aden, talking on the topics of “sustainable financial and reforms.”

“Paying salaries and providing basic services are key goals in Yemen,” the message stated.

The European Union said it was “ready to support better management of resources and expenditures”.

Since the transfer of Central Bank functions from Sana’a to Aden in September 2016, the coalition government has been unable to ensure the payment of salaries to its employees.
