A senior commander loyal to Saudi-led coalition in the ranks of Islah Party militia has on Saturday survived an assassination attempt in Taiz province, western Yemen.
Local sources reported that an improvised explosive went off in a military car of a commander in the Transport Brigade named Amjad Khaled, when he stopped in 24th Street in Al-Turba city in Taiz.
The sources stated that the explosion led to the killing of a recruit in the coalition ranks and the injury of others, and caused damages in the surrounding.
The Islah militia deployed around the area following the blast, closed it down and raided commercial shops, according to the sources.
The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) last week accused the commander in question of being behind the assassination of military commander Thabit Jawas in Aden.
