Yemeni National Salvation Government delegation arrives in Moscow on high-level diplomatic visit

The Yemeni National Delegation headed by Mohammed Abdulsalam has arrived on Wednesday in the Russian capital of Moscow.

During the visit, Abdulsalam met with the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, in a step revealing the extent of development of the political relations between Sana’a and Moscow.

The meeting emphasised interest in the prospects for achieving a comprehensive peaceful settlement of the war against Yemen and addressing the humanitarian issues.

The visit takes important dimensions in light of the UN truce that Yemen has been maintaining for months now, in addition to the sensitive conditions witnessed by the international community due to the events in Ukraine.

It is widely believed that Moscow seeks to keep windows open to all possibilities, based on fears that Russia may be affected by increased Saudi oil production in response to US requests, which may prompt Moscow to conduct more coordination with the National Salvation Government in Sana’a, in a way that guarantees the interests of both parties.

Officially, the Russian Federation does not recognise the National Salvation Government, but de facto numerous diplomatic meetings and talks have taken place between Sana’a and Moscow over the past years.
