A separatist military commander in the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militia was killed in an attack by gunmen on Saturday, in Shabwah province, southeastern Yemen.
A source in the local authority in the province told Sputnik that “members of a checkpoint belonging to [the Southern Al-Amaliqa Brigades], shot dead Brigadier General Mafraj al-Harithi, the commander of the “Fifth Shabwah Defense Brigade” in Harshafan area, west of Ataq city”.
He added that Al-Harithi’s companion, [his cousin Adel Salem], was also killed during the shooting, which Al-Amaliqa Brigades interpreted as a mistake.
The attack comes after forces loyal to the Islah Party in Shabwah vowed to take retaliations against the STC following its control over the city Ataq.
