A number of militants were killed and others wounded on Tuesday, in the first confrontations between the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militias and al-Qaeda terrorist organization in Abyan province, southern Yemen, Southern media reported, citing medical sources.
According to the sources, Yasser Abu Shayea, the commander “anti-terrorism battalion” was killed in addition to eight others of his companions who were killed or injured.
On the other hand, pro-STC media released photos of three dead wearing al-Qaeda uniform, claiming that they were killed during the confrontations.
Earlier in the day, al-Qaeda launched an attack on a post belonging to the UAE-backed militia in the coastal district of Ahwar.
