Iranian security forces have arrested nine foreign nationals involved in street riots in the country, the Iranian Intelligence Ministry said in a statement on Friday.
The arrested individuals include citizens of Germany, Poland, Italy, France, the Netherlands and Sweden who were “detained at the scene of riots or behind the scenes of conspiracy,” read the statement carried by the official IRNA news agency.
According to the ministry’s statement, the “tragic death” of a young Iranian woman has become a pretext for plots to incite public unrest and violence in the country.
The ministry added that Iranian security carried out “identification of elements related to foreign media in (the capital) Tehran and various provinces of the country, some of whom were arrested, some were summoned.”
The security has also arrested dozens of those who were related to the opposition “terrorist and separatist groups” involved in the riots.
