Saudi Arabia sentenced prisoner to another 17 years in prison after nearly completing earlier 6 year term

Human rights reports have confirmed that the Saudi judiciary re-tried a prisoner of conscience in the Kingdom and sentenced him to 17 years in prison, before his release date, which was scheduled for September.

“Democracy for the Arab World Now” (DAWN) organization said that activist Mohammed Al-Rabiah, who was arrested in mid-May 2018, was sentenced to 6 years in prison, two of which were suspended.

Before his scheduled release date last September, the Specialized Criminal Court in the Kingdom arbitrarily and secretly re-tried Al-Rabiah and sentenced him to 17 years in prison, according to DAWN.

DAWN is an American non-profit organization founded in September 2020 that advocates for democracy and human rights in the Middle East. It was founded by the late journalist Jamal Khashoggi with the aim of promoting human rights and democracy in the Arab region.
