UN Envoy to Yemen visits Berlin

The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, visited on Thursday the German capital, Berlin, where he will meet with senior German officials.

The UN Special Envoy’s office said in a brief statement on Twitter that the envoy met with the German Foreign Minister, Annalina Baerbock, and other German officials and exchanged views on the situation in Yemen and ways to move forward towards a sustainable and inclusive peace owned by the Yemenis with international support.

“The international community can provide assurances, call on the parties to exercise maximum restraint, encourage them to prioritize the interests of all Yemenis, and work to ensure the widest possible participation of Yemeni society at all stages of the process,” Grundberg’s office added.

Grundberg expressed his appreciation for Germany’s unwavering support for his mediation efforts and for the UN efforts in the areas of peace, development and humanitarian relief in Yemen.

The UN envoy stressed the need for coordinated international support to put Yemen on a path leading to peace.
