Death toll of earthquake in Syria and Turkey rises to 50,000

The death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck Syria and neighboring Turkey has exceeded 50,000, after the deaths in Syria rose according to statistics documented by several parties.

According to the Syrian media, the death toll in Syria alone has reached 5,951, an almost final toll.

At the same time, Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) counted the deaths of 44,374 people, bringing the total death toll in the two countries to 50,325.

The unfinished toll in Syria has been reported at more than 3,600.

The earthquake caused massive destruction in large areas of the governorates of Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, Latakia, and Tartous, compounding the tragedies of a people who have been suffering for nearly 12 years as a result of the war and the sanctions imposed on Syria.
