Mercenary gangs rob civilians in occupied Abyan province

Gunmen believed to belong to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia looted on Wednesday a car belonging to an international organization in Abyan province, in southern Yemen.

Human rights sources stated that the armed elements blocked the road in front of the car belonging to the international “CARE” organization, in the area of Kamb al-Turiyah in Jaar Khanfar district and took it to an unknown destination.

The sources explained that the gunmen took the driver down and forced him to hand over the car at gunpoint, indicating that a number of citizens discovered the elements that looted the car, which was returned to the organization within hours.

In early February 2022, six Yemeni United Nations employees, including a Bulgarian national, were kidnapped and taken to an unknown destination, amid accusations against al-Qaeda elements.

Incidents of interruption, looting, and theft of travelers are frequent in Abyan, including cars belonging to citizens, companies, and factories in the province.
