Finland to join NATO military bloc Tuesday

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Finland will formally join NATO and expressed his hope that Finland’s neighbor, Sweden, will join in the coming months.

“Finland will become a full member of the alliance from Tuesday and will participate in all its meetings,” he said, announcing that “Finland will provide the alliance with trained forces, equipment and a large number of reserve forces.”

“Our land border with Russia will be doubled with Finland’s accession to the alliance,” he said, adding: “We have not yet seen any change in Russia’s nuclear position and we are watching the situation cautiously.”
