Saudi Arabia has begun on Wednesday with arrangements for the post-announcement of the Hadhramaut Council, in a move that may reduce the influence of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), which is loyal to the UAE.
Southern media reported, quoting sources in the government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, that the Saudi ambassador to the pro-coalition government, Muhammad Al-Jaber, made contacts with leaders from the provinces of Mahrah and Shabwah and asked them to prepare to participate in the Hadhramaut Council.
The sources indicated that the Saudi ambassador’s communication with the sheikhs of Mahrah and Shabwah comes within the framework of arrangements to complete the establishment of what it describes as the “Hadhramaut region,” which includes a number of Yemeni provinces.
Ambassador Al-Jaber supervised the formation of the “Hadhramaut National Council”, which currently includes a Hadhrami majority, provided that it is expanded to include representatives from other provinces such as Socotra.
Saudi Arabia’s arrangements after the declaration of Hadhramaut are an indication of its decision to proceed with reducing the influence of the STC, which is loyal to Abu Dhabi.
