Shabwah tribes officially tear away from Southern Transitional Council

The tribes of Shabwah province announced on Wednesday their disengagement from the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) project.

The so-called “Shabwah Sons and Tribes Alliance” welcomed in a statement it issued today the formation of the so-called “Hadhramaut National Council” established by Riyadh as an outcome of the meetings organised by the Hadhrami components there since May 21.

The statement emphasised that the Shabwah tribes support the “Hadhrami vision” in the Hadhramaut people’s management of their local affairs in terms of capabilities and wealth.

The alliance statement called on the people and components of Shabwah to take a similar approach to managing their province according to a consensual vision that represents the entitlements of all the people of Shabwah, in coordination with the various concerned authorities at home and abroad.

The statement considered Shabwah and Hadhramaut “an intertwined fabric,” and said that “their supreme interest and history brought them together.”
