Senior leader of UAE-backed mercenary unit killed in targeted attack

A senior leader in the UAE-funded armed factions was killed on Thursday, while seven of his bodyguards were wounded in Abyan province, southern Yemen.

“The Staff of the 3rd Battalion in the 3rd Support Brigade, Jaber Al-Fahha Al-Yafe’i, was targeted in an explosion that targeted his military vehicle with an explosive device in Al-Jaza area of Mudiya district,” informed sources said.

The explosive devices killed dozens of leaders and recruits of the factions affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in the districts of Mudiya and Ahwar of Abyan, following the announcement of the so-called “Arms of East” operation by the STC to combat terrorist elements in the districts of Abyan in August of last year.

The confrontations gained a regional dimension after the STC brought in a number of military brigades from Dhalea and Yafaa in Lahj to various districts of Abyan due to the raids on the homes of the tribes in a number of areas under the pretext of harbouring terrorist elements.
