Loyalists to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) tore up pictures of the president of the “Presidential Leadership Council”, Rashad al-Alimi, in the city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadhramaut province, eastern Yemen, on Saturday.
Local sources said that the STC followers tore up Al-Alimi’s pictures that were installed in the streets of Mukalla city to welcome his visit to the province coming from the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The sources considered tearing up Al-Alimi’s photos as a protest against the deterioration of the electricity service and the high prices of foodstuffs, considering him an unwanted person in the city.
Al-Alimi’s visit to Hadhramaut came after the announcement of the establishment of the so-called “Hadhramaut National Council” by Riyadh, last Tuesday, with the aim of aborting the UAE-backed STC’s project in the eastern regions of Yemen.
A number of protesters blocked the main streets in Mukalla yesterday evening, Friday, at the instigation of the STC leadership in Hadhramaut.
