Al-Qaeda elements have on Sunday night launched a large-scale military attack against the positions of the armed factions loyal to the UAE in Abyan province, southern Yemen.
This is the third attack carried out by al-Qaeda in Abyan province in less than a week.
According to local and international media, al-Qaeda militants took control of new sites in Omran Valley, east of Modiya district, after fierce battles between the two sides that lasted for hours.
Al-Qaeda used drones in the attack, and the pro-UAE recruits suffered heavy losses in lives and equipment, according to media reports.
Al-Qaeda continues its escalation against the armed elements of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in response to the Siham Al-Sharq operation the latter launched against the terrorist organisation in Abyan.
