About two million pilgrims have begun to leave Arafat Mount near the Holy City of Mecca on Tuesday, after standing, praying and performing the greatest pillar of Hajj pilgrimage.
The Hajj season recorded record numbers this year in an atmosphere of extreme heat, and it is held without any restrictions related to the number of pilgrims or their ages, after three years of Saudi Arabia organising limited Hajj against the background of the outbreak of the Covid pandemic.
The pilgrims spent the night in the Mina Valley, seven kilometers from the Grand Mosque in Mecca, the holiest city for Muslims.
The Day of Arafah, which this year coincided with June 27, is held annually to commemorate the Farewell Sermon of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), which the Messenger of Allah held shortly before his death.
