The UAE-supported Southern Transitional Council (STC) militias has launched a campaign of arrests against citizens in the city of Aden, southern Yemen.
Sources familiar with the matter said members of the STC’s Security Belt forces raided a number of citizens’ homes in Crater district and arrested a large group of people, including the elderly, under the pretext of pursuing wanted persons.
The sources pointed out that the detainees were transferred to an unknown location, while the campaign raised panic and fears among the families.
This campaign targets prominent figures participating in escalating demonstrations and protests in Aden against the collapse of living conditions due to the deterioration of the local currency.
On Friday, the STC forces had stormed several citizens’ homes in Al-Sakani neighborhood in Crater district and arrested a number of citizens under various pretexts.
The raids and arrests came in light of the escalation of tensions between Saudi Arabia and the UAE to control the stronghold of the STC, in addition to the entry of the United States into the hot line of conflict between the two poles of the coalition by sending military forces to Aden city.
