Protests against Emirati occupation of Socotra continue

The popular discontent against the UAE continued on Monday on the island of Socotra due to the violations committed by the pro-UAE factions against the demonstrators, who denounce the deterioration of living conditions, the lack of services, and the collapse of the economy.

Sheikhs and notables of Qalansiyah district organized today a protest vigil, in which they demanded the departure of the governor affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), Raafat al-Thaqali, along with the rest of the UAE factions.

Last Saturday, the “al-Shahakhasmi” tribes, the largest of the Socotra tribes, issued a statement calling for the dismissal of the governor after the STC’s factions attacked angry popular protests.
