Three al-Qaeda members were killed in clashes with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions in Abyan province, southern Yemen, pro-STC media sources reported on Thursday.
According to the sources, “Hurayrah al-Abini, Hakim al-Sana’ani, and another named Abu Quraish were killed in the attack launched by the organization’s elements on the positions of the STC in al-Dhiq site in Omran valley, east of Modiyah district, leaving 5 dead, including the operations staff officer of the First Battalion in the Third Brigade, Adnan Abdo Ahmed Al-Waalani, and wounding 5 others.”
Activists loyal to the STC published on Thursday a picture of the al-Qaeda dead, whom they said were killed in the confrontations in Omran Valley in Modiyah last Monday.
Hundreds of STC faction members have been killed or injured since the announcement of the “Siham Al-Sharq” operation in Abyan against al-Qaeda and Islah Party militants in mid-August of last year, when the factions grabbed control of the city of Ataq, the center of Shabwah province.
