At least one member of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions was killed and six others were injured on Saturday in an improvised explosive device attack in Abyan province, southern Yemen.
According to local sources, unidentified gunmen suspected of belonging to al-Qaeda detonated two explosive devices while military vehicles of the STC factions were passing by on the main road at the entrance to Mudiyah district in the center of the province, killing Jalal Ali Saleh al-Fattahi and injuring six others.
The sources indicated that the two explosions were heard in different locations of the Modiya’s outskirts, and no one claimed responsibility for the attack.
This comes after five members of the STC factions, including the Operations Staff of the 1st Battalion in the 3rd Support Brigade, Adnan Abdo Ahmed Al-Waalani, were killed and five others wounded in an attack launched by Al-Qaeda members on the sites of the factions in Omran Valley in early August.
