A massive fire broke out on Friday in one of the Somali refugee camps in the city of Ma’rib, northeastern Yemen, local sources said.
According to the sources, the fire broke out in the “Batha’a Al-Jathwa” refugee camp in Wadi Obeida, which led to the destruction of refugee homes.
The fire destroyed the refugee homes built of nests and tents, due to the late arrival of the civil defense team and the lack of security and safety means in the camps for the displaced people in the city of Ma’rib, the sources added.
From time to time, IDP camps in Ma’rib governorate are exposed to multiple fire incidents. The fire incidents cause material and human losses.
During the past 10 months, the camps had witnessed 58 fire incidents due to negligence and lack of security and safety means.
The fire incidents have led the death and injury of dozens of displaced people, according to a previous statement by the IDP Executive Office loyal to Saudi-led coalition in the governorate.
