The head of the peaceful sit-in committee in Mahrah province, Sheikh Ali Salem Al-Harizi, revealed on Saturday Saudi efforts to establish a pro-Riyadh council in the province, located in the far east of Yemen.
During an extraordinary meeting of the sit-in committee to discuss the latest developments in the province in light of the visit of Rashad Al-Alimi, president of the “Presidential Leadership Council” loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, to Mahrah, Sheikh Al-Harizi confirmed that the people of Mahrah would thwart all external conspiracies, plans, and ambitions.
Al-Harizi called on Al-Alimi to apologize to the people of Mahrah for the false accusations made during his recent statements regarding terrorism and smuggling.
“It was more appropriate for Al-Alimi to address what Yemen and the province in particular are exposed to in terms of violations committed by the coalition, America, and Britain,” he said.
Sheikh Al-Harizi affirmed that “all the sons of Mahrah feel that Al-Alimi was sent by his masters to work against Mahrah with the aim of occupying it by foreign forces.”
It is worth noting that Sheikh Al-Harizi launched an attack on “Al-Alimi” in late October of last year in a televised speech in which he described him as an agent and a conspirator against Yemen.
A number of political leaders in southern Yemen had previously revealed Saudi intentions to establish “councils” affiliated with Riyadh in the provinces of Mahrah and Shabwah, similar to the “Hadhramaut Council.”
