Pictures of an Israeli Mossad officer touring the Yemeni island of Socotra have caused widespread indignation among social media pioneers, Yemen Press Agency reported on Sunnday.
The Israeli officer appeared in some photos circulated by the activists with a Kalashnikov weapon and others accompanied by security guards in several areas in Socotra.
According to the activists, the Israeli officer, who appeared to be showing off his weapon, had come to Socotra Island on a tourist visa from Abu Dhabi.
In recent years, Socotra has witnessed frequent visits by Israeli intelligence officers, accompanied by officers from UAE intelligence, to examine various sites for the establishment of military intelligence bases on the Yemeni island.
The Mossad officer’s visit to Socotra coincided with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) leaders’ holding secret meetings with Zionist diplomats and military personnel in the UAE, which were led by the pro-UAE governor of Socotra, Raafat al-Thaqali, in Abu Dhabi and attended by the Israeli ambassador to the UAE last Friday.
This meeting comes within the framework of Israel’s suspicious activities on the island of Socotra, with the support of the UAE, through which it seeks to expand its influence in the Socotra archipelago, including Abd al-Kuri island of the archipelago after the displacement of its residents and the establishment of Israeli bases.
The Yemeni island of Socotra, which is under the control of the UAE occupation, has witnessed, in recent years, an air movement to transport foreign tourists, including Israelis, through Emirati and Israeli tourism companies, in full view of the “government” loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, without registering any position against the Emirati tampering with Yemeni sovereignty.
