The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has warned of an increase in acute malnutrition cases in six occupied governorates in southern Yemen.
“The number of Yemenis suffering from acute malnutrition is expected to increase during June-December 2023, with Yemen remaining one of the most food-insecure countries in the world,” UNICEF said, in a report.
The report confirmed that the areas most at risk of exacerbation of acute malnutrition are concentrated in Abyan, Shabwa, Taiz, Al-Dhale’e, Lahj, and southern Hodeidah, which are under the control of the US-Saudi aggression.
The report indicated that there was a decrease in the level of food insecurity this year compared to 2022, but there is still a large number of people facing severe acute food insecurity which raises great concern for the majority of the population in the southern governorates.
