Egypt arrests leader of General People's Congress at the behest of Saudi Arabia and UAE

On Monday, Egyptian authorities arrested the prominent leader of the General People’s Congress (GPC)’s party, Adel Al-Shuja, who resides in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, well-informed sources said.

According to the sources, on Monday morning, a security force raided the house of the leader Adel Al-Shujaa and arrested him over his writings and publications on social media platforms.

He will be referred to the Public Prosecution, the sources said.

The Egyptian authorities explained that the arrest of Al-Shujaa came after a communication submitted by the head of the “Presidential Leadership Council” Rashad Al-Alimi and Prime Minister Moeen Abdul Malik, loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, to the Egyptian authorities at the request of the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Observers believe that the reasons that led to the arrest are his critical writings on the corruption of the pro-coalition government and the excesses of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and their tools in Yemen, who practice widespread violations in various Yemeni governorates.
