Residents in Al Maqatirah District north of Lahj, southern Yemen, denounced the ongoing detention of 25 teachers from the area for the second month in a row. The teachers were kidnapped by the forces of the Fourth Mountain Infantry Brigade, affiliated with the Islah party.
The residents organized angry protests condemning the arrest of teachers. After being arrested the victims are illegally taken to secret prisons and without any charge.
Residents held the authority of the “Presidential Leadership Council” responsible for the safety of teachers, demanding their immediate release.
The residents, along with teachers’ wives, closed the directorate’s schools in a protest against their continued detention, which caused disruption to the educational process. The brigade’s leadership did not respond to their demands.
