The Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, met in Washington with US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, and a number of senior American officials.
According to a statement issued by Grundberg’s office, the meeting discussed the progress made in efforts to reach an agreement between the Yemeni parties on measures to improve living conditions in Yemen and a sustainable ceasefire throughout the country, and the resumption of an inclusive political process in Yemen under the auspices of the United Nations.
Grundberg stressed that UN mediation “to bring the Yemenis together” in order to achieve sustainable peace requires concerted regional and international support.
He pointed to the need to maintain consensus and unity among members of the Security Council and the international community along Yemen’s path towards peace, recovery and development.
