Dozens of motorcycle driving protesters demonstrated on Thursday in Aden, in protest against a new ban on motorcycles, imposed by factions loyal to the Saudi-led coalition in southern Yemen.
Motorcyclists explained that the ban decision issued by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions and approved by the local authorities, did not take into account the people’s economic conditions, and said the ban affected all citizens searching for a source of income that would provide their families with a decent living. Motorcycles are the most common mode of transportation for the majority of the city’s inhabitants.
For weeks, the STC factions have been campaigning to confiscate motorcycles, in a decision that does not consider the suffering of a wide segment of low-income people in Aden.
