The Malaysian police announced on Friday the arrest of a 36-year-old Israeli man at a hotel in Jalan Ampang in the capital Kuala Lumpur, and seized six firearms and 200 bullets.
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the suspect claimed to be targeting another Israeli national over a family dispute. However, the police are conducting further investigations.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian police stated that investigations will continue.
Police did not rule out the possibility that the man could be a member of Israeli intelligence, though the suspect told authorities he had entered Malaysia to hunt down another Israeli citizen due to a family dispute.
Malaysian police have also intensified security measures across the country.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the apprehended individual entered the country with a French passport before succumbing to investigations and surrendering his Israeli passport.
It is worth mentioning that the arrested individual arrived in Malaysia from one of the Arab countries’ airports and stayed in three hotels in Malaysia before being detained for investigation until the end of the current month.
It is noteworthy that Malaysian security agencies managed to rescue a Palestinian IT engineer two years ago after a Mossad cell kidnapped him, aiming to transfer him to Tel Aviv. As a result of the operation, several Mossad cells in Malaysia were dismantled.
